The Story of Luis

Luis's grandfather, Viviano Canales, was born in Mexico and came to the United States as a young man. He brought with him the many traditions and proud dignity which are the heritage of the Mexican people. Luis was heir to this heritage but also to the struggles and conflicts of growing up as a Latino.

The pressures of the barrio shaped his experience and filled it with danger. Survival was an art and life often hung by a slender thread. And in the midst of these hazards, there walked an Enemy whose hatred for Luis was unchanging.
