But I already made the decision to follow Jesus and to serve Him.
God says
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
The Letter of Paul to Titus
Chapter 3, Verse 5
For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. The Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians
Chapter 5, Verses 14-15
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.The Letter of Paul to the Romans
Chapter 12, Verses 1-2
That meansYouve made a wonderful decision. Thats a noble goal. However, it has nothing to do with obtaining eternal life or assurance. Following and serving the Lord are not the issue in salvation. The only issue in salvation is faith.
Of course, serving Christ is something that you as a growing Christian should do. The love of Christ should move you to serve Him. Serving Him is reasonable. However, you should serve Him because you know you have eternal life, not in order to try to gain it. If you think you need to serve Christ in order to have eternal life, then you dont believe His promise.
Believing in Christ assures you that you are saved. Then, by all means, do follow Him!
