Consistently Free Grace It has become difficult these days to find instruction that consistently holds to the message of God’s free grace. Currently, there are very few free grace schools. At GESOT you will find a faculty that believes and teaches God’s message of absolutely free salvation and consider this clear message to be foundational to the Christian church and education.
Traditional seminary education may require the student and his/her family to move to the site of the school. However, with GESOT, the school meets the student where they are, at home. Students will be able to stay in their present homes, jobs, and church ministries. Anyone having access to a computer with an Internet connection has the possibility of being a student at GESOT. One might feel that without face-to-face interaction with faculty learning might be more difficult and impersonal. We feel, however, that our non-resident instruction will provide even greater access to instructors than is available in resident programs. Faculty will interact with the students in their classes via on-line discussions, answering students’ e-mail questions and comments, and personally grading students’ papers and exams. And, to insure that faculty members have enough time for each student, no class will have over 15 students.
The New Testament assumes that the training of pastors and church leaders would take place in the local church. Much of the church has gotten away from this model, and trains its future leaders by sending them away to an educational institution. Our desire is to have the local church play a vital role in training the next generation of pastors and leaders. Our Pastoral Ministries Track will be unique in that students will be required to be actively involved within the various ministries of their own local churches. Thus, students will learn "on the job" instead of merely in "textbook" isolation. We consider this experience to be fundamental in the training of pastors and church leaders. By the time a student graduates, he will have had solid experience in all major aspects of a church ministry. GESOT partners with one’s local church in the training of future pastors and leaders by providing the academic training while the local church will provide much of the opportunities for the student to apply and use his knowledge to serve others. Benefits to the Local Church Local churches will benefit from GESOT in a number of ways:
One of our key goals is to keep tuition affordable so that our programs are accessible to all qualified applicants who wish to attend. Because we have no buildings, grounds, and classrooms to furnish and maintain, we are able to keep our costs low and use a majority of the tuition to provide interactive opportunities with a highly qualified faculty. In addition, students will not have to bear the added costs of lost income or relocation that would traditionally accompany seminary training. Bible Focused Curriculum The Bible is the backbone of our curriculum. Students wishing to train for the pastorate will take 7 semesters of Greek and 3 of Hebrew, 2 semesters of Bible survey, and 7 semesters of theology. In addition, there will be courses in church history, contemporary issues in hermeneutics, homiletics, writing for publication, and six electives of their own choosing. Students apply what they learn in class in 9 semesters of practical ministry courses, covering all aspects of pastoral ministry. As part of the program, a Pastoral Ministries Track student will be required to attend three of Grace Evangelical Society's annual conferences. This will be followed by submitting an interactive report. Our program also includes a thesis. We feel that the writing of a master’s thesis is crucial to the development of the student’s ability to communicate biblical concepts well. It teaches the student how to do scholarly research and how to organize his thoughts in a major paper. Excellent Free Grace Faculty We have gathered together a faculty of highly qualified educators, pastors, and missionaries. In addition to outstanding academic credentials, all of the faculty have a heart for ministry and are involved in local church ministry themselves. And, of course, all have a deep and abiding commitment to the freeness of eternal life and to the costliness of eternal rewards. |
